Snags Seen in Pandemic Policies for Senior Centers and Home Meals

I was dropped from the program with no forewarning! Waited 2 weeks to be reinstated only to navigate new challenges: no advance notice as before, food delivery arriving same day before 7am (sometimes missed), low quality meals primarily rice & pasta with peas/carrots primarily in each, minimal tasteless protein, 2 bagels, 1 corn muffin, 3 apples. My Visions Senior Center for the Blind/Visually Limited served a variety of balanced meals 5days/wk (reg, veg, kosher) with fruit, milk, bread, fruit, coffee/tea, water and extra for weekend/holidays. This has been a travesty and poorly exceuted for our senior population who deserves nutritious options in our golden years. Many of us have served the city for 30 evbe 40 yrs. Why not product fresh produce and meat options as many grassroots/volunteer groups are struggling to provide for their food insecure in isolation. High risk seniors in isolation CANNOT wait on block long lines for hours. Shameful and wasteful management.

PLEASE reinstate meals at my beloved Visions Senior Center for Blind/Visually Limited in Chelsea- happy to excercise necessary precautions to pick up there. The Get Food meals for seniors in isolation is a fail, lacks variety/quality and arriving without sufficient advance notice/regularity (same day/pre-7am notice is not mindful). Stop this wasteful use of City funding for poor variety/incomplete meals for a week’s consumption. Alternatively, provide a box of fresh, seasonal vegetables/fruit, select protein as many elected officials, volunteers and grassroots organizers have done for their communities with $ donations and contributions from local farms and restaurants in solidarity and support to maintain nutritional neds of senior and families experiencing food insecurity,
