Ishle (pronounced ISH-ill) Yi Park, 29, was named Poet Laureate of Queens for the term April 2004 – April 2007. Park, who is Korean-American, lives in Whitestone, Queens, and is in New Zealand for several months to perform at the Christchurch Writers’ Festival and work on her writing and music. On Sept. 11, 2001 she was on the rooftop of a building on Union Square and saw the second tower fall.
