Being an apprentice electrician that working at Hudson Yard many years ago when Javits center nearby was just getting started, I know it’s hard many times being the only female in the worst working conditions. I was fortunate to get into a union apprenticeship and I still was having a hard time domestically. What efforts are being made to handle the abusive situation these women encountering? Please keep me informed of measures being taken and how I may contribute.

I agree that the trend toward hiring nonunion labor for construction projects in NYC is bad for workers. However, I don’t know if I would call full time work at $20/hour low wage in a city where many people make $15-16/hour in many other sectors.

Construction site safety is heavily regulated, and skirting the rules could result in significant fines. Researches have shown that lead contains paints of various, including well-known, manufacturers. So only in 5 out of 21 prototypes the level of lead did not exceed the maximum recommended indicator of 0.009%. A new law requires the RRP Lead Renovator Initial Course is mandatory and must be passed by the end of the year.

I worked for 5 years as a construction worker dealing with harassment on a daily basis I finally spoke up for sexual discrimination on March 25th 2020 and never got a job again. I even contacted the labor regulations department and all filed a report and they changed everything I said while knowing I have the original papers clearly stating what happened. Now I’m close to losing everything because I spoke up 😔
