NYPD Gets Pressure from the Right, on Guns

The reason the NYPD was criticized is that the logic behind their decision demonstrated a lack of understanding on firearms. Removing two rounds from a glock 17 magazine will not suddenly make the magazine compatible with a glock 19. The glock 17 magazines can naturally fit into a glock 19 pistol. This gives the officers 17 rounds instead of 15. However, a glock 19 magazine cannot fit into a glock 17 magazine. The whole decision the department made was based on a complete lack of understanding. This is troubling that department employing a weapon system wouldn’t be intimately familiar with it. It also demonstrates how a culture that demonizes guns ends up being ignorant of them. Also a magazine is not a “clip”. Its hard to take a article like this seriously when the writer is ignorant of the correct terms and guns.
The NYPD was never criticized for using hollow points. However a very heavy trigger pull can contribute to making it very difficult to shoot accurately. This is a problem if officers do not train regularly and it won’t prevent negligent discharges. Only proper handling techniques will do that.

There has never, ever been a cop who has been involved in any kind of shooting who thought at the time, “Oh God, I wish I had fewer bullets in my gun.”
