Housing Deal is Big, But More Big Decisions are Down the Road

    I still doubt that deBlasio will be able to build the 80,000 or 200,000 thousand units he’s been whining about. The only smart things is this plan are the option allowing construction of the low-income units off-site. That will reduce some neighborhood opposition to large scale apartment buildings. And keeping the parking requirements in neighborhoods (like most of Queens and all of SI) where a car is a necessity.

    Progressives dream about mixed-income housing yet in reality such developments are difficult to market to middle-income and upper-income people. The parking issue is just common sense.
