this is total bs. if they allow tenants to live in the building then they should have the basic necessities like heat hot water etc. these slumlords make tons of $$$ probably get all types of tax breaks and then pull this bullshit. everyday these ppl go without gas and hot water they should be fined 10k a day until service is restored. if it cant be restored in a timely fashion then condemn the building and get everyone out and into temporary housing plain and simple. I cant believe shit like this still goes on in 2021 but they want to show us these fucking billionaires going into space who gives a shit fix the shit on earth 1st.

Why hasn’t HPD done the work under it’s Emergency Repair Program and charge the Podolskys for the work and all associated violations (plus exhorbitant interest) to pay for the work. This is exactly what this program is designed to do! Clearly HPD is aware of the problem but surprise, surprise compliance to prevent this very circumstance is weak or non-existent. The HPD own website lists no gas problem as early as May 5th. That’s plenty of time for the slumlords to replace the piping, which as reported is in the basement and thus would not involve relocation or disruption of existing tenants.

Repeat offenders like the Podoskys should have their buildings taken away from them and the city take them over, rehab the building into decent low rent housing.
If not that, arrest these offenders.

I used to work there and the building should have been condemned way b4 all of this. Trust me slum lord is a kind phrase to call these ppl. The entire structure is ready to fall down , their lack of integrity isn’t on a scale of any standards
