In 2015, the de Blasio administration announced its plan to rezone 15 neighborhoods as part of its affordable housing initiative. So far, the city has approved six of those rezonings, with one remaining on the docket in Gowanus. Last week, City Limits published a roundup of where development and neighborhood investment stands in each rezoned neighborhood. Here’s a quick video tour through those communities:

Expedite rezonings. Approve all pending and new projects for luxury and affordable buildings. Privatize NYCHA. We need all of this in order to generate jobs as the city is currently broke and we need to bring it back. Unfortunately, we cannot focus on social assistance if we don’t have money. We need to generate money by creating jobs and tax revenues so that we can then also assist the ones in need.

Build Build Build. Generate income, create housing. NYC needs savings from this virus and gentrification is the cure!

Bottom line: zoning changes won’t solve the affordable housing crisis. Never has. De Blasio’s Mandatory Inclusionary Housing program was followed by more and not less homelessness. The growth machine doesn’t work for those who need housing the most.
