Organizers within the nail salon industry continue to fight for better working conditions, even four years after the passage of state regulations intended to protect employees.
Dr. Mitchell Katz, president of NYC Health + Hospitals, said he feared the pending policy could result in immigrants who refuse to use health services or remain enrolled in health insurance.
Following the August slaying, the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, in collaboration with a number of organizations, began carrying out outreach activities at nearly 50 beauty salons in Jackson Heights to let residents know about the resources available to victims and survivors.
