Two weeks and two days before the September 13 state primary, the four Democrats running for attorney general faced off Tuesday evening in a 90-minute debate at 7 p.m. on Spectrum News. It was the second of at least three planned debates—the first occurred last week and what is likely the final debate is scheduled to be broadcast by WNYC on September 6.

A race that was not supposed to happen—the office of attorney general is open only because Eric Schneiderman resigned amid accusations of misconduct earlier this year—the AG contest is considered wide open, with polls indicating a large share of voters remaining undecided. The winner of the primary will face a general election in November.

Below is basic information about the candidates, including data on their campaign contributions created by City Limits, as well as audio from each of their appearances on Max & Murphy, the political podcast we do weekly with Gotham Gazette. And if you’re curious, here’s a look at the powers and duties of the attorney general.
