Once the exhibition ends, on April 12th, Guernsey’s Auction House will be hosting a once in a lifetime auction where the doors of the Chelsea Hotel that once belonged to the residences of Joni Mitchell, Mark Twain, Liam Neeson, Bette Davis, Iggy Pop, WEB Du Bois, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Madonna, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, Tennessee Williams, Humphry Bogart, Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Bob Marley, Bon Jovi, Jack Kerouac and many more will be sold.
Chelsea Hotel, a landmark since 1966, and has been called home by many rock stars, artists, writers, actors and actresses and poets, and behind each door, some of the modern world’s most famous masterpieces where born. These doors hold the secrets of scandalous affairs, artistic inspirations and even some still unsolved murders.
Proceeds from the auction will go to benefit City Harvest a nonprofit that feeds nearly 1.3 million New Yorkers facing hunger as the current owner of the doors once himself was homeless.
