Making its inaugural launch in the Flatiron section of Manhattan, Heart Gallery NYC and the NYC Department for Homeless Services will debut a unique photo exhibition. “Through the Eyes of the Homeless” is an inspiring gallery of urban images captured by homeless individuals who were mentored by professional, notable photographers. A private opening reception (open to the media) on the evening of Monday, November 16th at the Prince George Ballroom will celebrate this socially responsible pilot program.
Inspired by a recent project by the French nonprofit Deuxieme Marche in Paris, the Through the Eyes of the Homeless project centers on mentoring by Heart Gallery NYC celebrity photographers and their 14 homeless mentees. Through a series of excursions in and around Manhattan neighborhoods beginning in summer 2015, the mentors encouraged their budding photographers to see NYC through their own “lens” using donated cameras from Adorama Camera, Canon, Fuji and Olympus. The resulting juried photo exhibition reflects the mentees’ unique perspective on the city and life in general
