Theater for the New city is Having its 20th annual celebration of the LOWER EAST SIDE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS, LES. Memorial Day weekend, May 22, 23 and 24. The festival occurs in two of THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY’S four theaters, the Johnson Theater and the Cabaret Theater. Simultaneous performances begin at 6 pm until 1 in the am, in both venues. In addition, the festival has an outdoor component, all day Saturday May 23rd, there will be performances by poets, actors, dancers, musicians, and much food by local merchants. The entire festival is free to the public. The only things that are for sale are the diverse foods offered on Saturday. On Saturday afternoon, indoors, from 2 to 5 pm, there are plays for and by children from the area. A number of schools participate in this section of the festival. Over 70 groups, over 250 performers will participate. The performances come from groups and performers that reside on the Lower East Side, as well as performances of Work that is Ethnically Rooted in the many Peoples who claim the Lower East Side. A Multi-Cultural Cavalcade. A free-for-all of Theater, Music, Dance, Comedy, Film and Art This makes the festival a very diverse, exciting, and emotionally fulfilling event.
