THE CATHEDRAL OF ST. JOHN THE DIVINE PRESENTS AN ORGAN RECITAL BY KENT TRITLE
February 6, 2018$25.00
The Cathedral of St. John the Divine continues its 2017–2018 season of Great Music in a Great Space on Tuesday, February 6 at 7:30 pm with a Great Organ recital by Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music, performing the works of Louis Marchand, Nicolas de Grigny, François Couperin, Jehan Alain and Alexandre Guilmant at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.
Tritle, now in his seventh season as Director of Cathedral Music, is a master of French organ repertoire, ranging from the Baroque to the present day. From the elegance and swagger of the French Baroque composers Marchand and Couperin, to the subtlety and virtuosity of the 20th century organist Jehan Alain, to the dramatic and moving Sonata No. 5 by Romantic virtuoso Alexandre Guilmant, Tritle brings an exciting flair to this extraordinary program.
The Great Organ, built in 1911 by Earnest M. Skinner, and enlarged and rebuilt in 1954 by G. Donald Harrison of The Aeolian Skinner Organ Company, brings together in one instrument the very best from two of America’s foremost organ-builders. The Great Organ recital program, one of the series comprising Great Music in a Great Space, brings world-class musicians each season to fill the reverberating spaces of the Cathedral with sound.
Tickets start at $25. To purchase tickets and for more information on future concerts, please visit: http://www.stjohndivine.org/visit/calendar/events/music/17903/great-organ-kent-tritle-5.
