Sacred Sites Open House At The Church of Saint Luke In the Fields

May 16, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Church of Saint Luke in the Fields to Participate in City-Wide Open House
On Sat. May 16th from 9am to 3pm, the landmark Church of Saint Luke in the Fields (Episcopalian parish located at Hudson and Grove Streets in the West Village) will participate in the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Sacred Sites Open House Weekend.
St. Luke’s, built in 1821, stands on its own two-acre city block, along with ten surviving row houses of similar vintage. The beauty and integrity of the church, gardens and the block is unique. According to the New York City Landmarks register, it is the “most significant architectural ensemble in the West Village and the earliest to date.”
Each spring, congregations throughout the City and State open their doors so neighbors can experience first-hand the wonderful art, architecture, and history embodied in New York’s Sacred Sites. Visitors also learn about the crucial social and cultural programming these magnificent religious institutions provide their communities as well.
This year’s Open House Weekend, “Celebrating New York’s Diverse Houses of Worship”, is being organized as part of the 50th anniversary of New York City’s Landmarks Law and is scheduled for the weekend of May 16-17, 2015.
When: Saturday May 16th 9a,-3pm
