Concerts on the Slope presents an afternoon of works for the uncommon combination of cello and organ in the final concert of composer Robert Sirota’s residency. The program will include music by Saint-Saens, Rheinberger, and Dupre, as well as Sirota’s Easter Canticles. Concerts on the Slope performances are open to the public and no tickets are required; a free will donation is suggested.
Composed in 1993, Easter Canticles is designed as a triptych after an iconostasis of the Orthodox Church. The three panels are meditations on scenes from the Passion of Jesus Christ: his prayerful agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, his crucifixion, and resurrection.
