Positively 8th Street

May 14, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Now in its fourth year the Positively 8th Street Festival is a one-day celebration of the rich cultural history, the businesses, institutions, community groups and businesses of Eighth Street & Greenwich Village, with live music, food, culture, arts and crafts for the whole family.

The 8th Street stage will showcase live music from bands including Heth & Jed, The Joe Taylor Collective and Lawrence Rush & The Underground Harmony who will present jazz, blues, folk and much more.

Lie back and enjoy the music and sun on the 8th Street lawn, an 800 Sq.ft area of live grass grown especially for the festival, or sit back and relax on over 120 chairs and 40 tables whilst enjoying al fresco lunch from 8th Street restaurants, including sushi from NETA, New York’s best burger from Burger Joint, fancy panini and crostini from Il Bambino or something lean, green and healthy from EVAS kitchen or Culture, the American yogurt company.

Thirsty? Some of the best coffee in the Village will be served by Lena and the Arts & Crafts Beer Parlor will be showcasing their vast range of brews.

Whilst wandering the festival visit 8th Streets eclectic and diverse range of fashion and lifestyle shops including Graey Studio by Storm Ritter, Shop Untitled NYC, Uncle Sam’s, Lomography and many more.

For those wanting to express their inner creative self-there will be children’s art and design workshops presented by the Scribble Art Workshop, the legendary New York Studio School, home of the first Whitney Museum will hold drawing classes with a live model. The school will also be open for people to visit their current exhibitions, including the ‘Thesis Exhibition’. The Textile Arts Workshop will be holding craft classes for kids and adults out on the street, with the opportunity to design and block print your very own 8th Street tote bag!

For the kids, the New York Parks Department Mobile Recreation van will be on the street providing games and toys for almost every age.

Start your summer in a healthy way by meeting and checking out the Miami inspired 305 Fitness or visit the Mount Sinai/Beth Israel Medical Center who will be on the street providing free health screenings and blood pressure checks.

Whilst soaking up the culture, atmosphere and architecture learn about how it all happened with the Jefferson Market Library who will be presenting highlights of their amazing ‘Oral History’ project which recounts Village history, as told by prominent local residents, and for those looking for their summer beach reading, bring your books to the Jefferson Market Library book swap table!

8th Street and the Village is all about community, creating strong connections, looking out for each other and being one. Find out how this happens by meeting leading Greenwich Village advocacy organizations at the festival including the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation, The Neighborhood Preservation Society and the Washington Square Park Conservancy.

Community also applies to our four legged furry friends looking for a family and home in the Village, so we’re proud to welcome the New York Animal Care & Control Pet Adoption Van with dogs and cats looking for a loving home.
