More than one thousand walkers and supporters are expected to participate in The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter’s 15th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS fundraiser in Purchase, NY on Sunday, June 25th at 10:30 AM, at Manhattanville College.
The Walk is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Before and after the Walk there will be family friendly activities such as face painting, music, mascots, refreshments, and other fun & games.
Every 90 minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). ALS impacts everyone, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status. The approximately 30,000 people in the United States annually fighting ALS survive two to five years from the time of diagnosis. There is no known cause, no effective treatment, and no cure.
Proceeds from the event will go to The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter. As one of The ALS Association’s leading chapters, the Greater New York Chapter serves patients and families throughout Long Island, New York City, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, and Northern & Central New Jersey. The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with ALS and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. The ALS Association is the only national nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS.
