The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program and Triangle Arts Association are pleased to announce their annual open studio events. The renowned artists residency programs are kicking off the weekend with receptions for their artists on Friday May 1 from 6-9 PM and continuing with open studios through the weekend, Saturday and Sunday May 2-3 from 2-6 PM each day. Visitors are invited to meet the artists – and see their works-in-progress across disciplines of drawing, installation, painting, pedagogy, performance, photography, sculpture, video, and more.
The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program is the new face of the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Space Program, developed for artists, by artists in 1991. In 2014 the program was renamed the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program to honor the legacy of Marie Walsh Sharpe and reflect the new sponsorship and commitment of the Walentas Family Foundation.
The program is available to 17 individual artists who are chosen by a jury of professional artists from an annual pool of more than 1,100 applications. Since its founding, The Space Program has awarded studio space to more than 350 American artists.
