NYU TANDON TO PRESENT SCREENING OF AWARD-WINNING FILM ON PIONEERING DISABILITIES COURSE, “THE ABILITY EXCHANGE”
NYU Tandon will host a screening of “The Ability Exchange,” an intimate documentary about an innovative Disability Studies course taught by NYU Tandon Senior Lecturer Allan Goldstein. The course allows for engineering students and self-advocates with cerebral palsy to explore their own abilities — how they move, talk, think and connect — by making movies. After the screening, there will be a thought-provoking discussion on the film and educational innovations that address the needs of disabled persons, followed by a reception. Described by Indiewire as “an empathy engine”, the documentary has captivated viewers at film festivals across the country and garnered awards such as Best Feature/Audience Favorite at Ellensburg Film Festival, Best Feature Documentary at the Reel Independent Film Extravaganza, among others.
