New York Choral Society Summer Sings – Every Wednesday in July

July 1, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - July 29, 2015 @ 10:00 pm

Presented by
The New York Choral Society
David Hayes, Music Director

The New York Choral Society invites you to experience the fun of singing classical choral masterpieces, popular opera choruses and a selection of holiday music with acclaimed conductors from the New York area. Join us in raising the roof with song each Wednesday in July.

Wednesday, July 1 – Gilbert & Sullivan Favorites
Enjoy the topsy-turvy genius of Gilbert & Sullivan as we sing excerpts from their most famous comic operas, including H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado.
David Hayes, Conductor
New York Choral Society

Wednesday, July 8 – Mozart Night
Spend an entire evening…just singing Mozart. Mozart’s Requiem–one of the most popular works in the choral repertoire. Left unfinished at his death, it is arguably some of Mozart’s most personal writing; strong and powerful yet at times heartbreakingly tender. Ave Verum Corpus—a 3-minute gem.
Judith Clurman, Conductor
Essential Voices USA
Omaha Symphony Sacred Voices Concerts

Wednesday, July 15 – Italian Night
Immerse yourself in the beauty and majesty of some of the most celebrated Italian composers. Featuring excerpts from Verdi’s Requiem, and beloved opera choruses including the “Anvil Chorus”, ”Va pensiero”, “Libiamo”, “The Humming Chorus” and others. A presto! (See you soon)
Michael Ciavaglia, Conductor
New York Choral Society

Wednesday, July 22 – Christmas in July
Wear your Santa hat and most “ugly” Christmas sweater as we celebrate Christmas in July. Complete with excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, and a few rousing Christmas Carols, we invite you to celebrate the season early—and even have a glass of eggnog (on us!)
David Close, Conductor
The Oratorio Society of Queens

Wednesday, July 22 – German Classics
Channel your inner Wotan and Brϋnnhilde as we sing our way to Valhalla. The evening will include Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Weber’s Der Freischϋtz, Wagner’s Lohengrin and Tannhäuser. The Norse gods will smile favorably on this evening of German masterpieces.
