New York Cares Day Spring – the organization’s annual citywide spring volunteer event – will take place on Saturday, April 22, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. New York Cares is seeking 3,000 volunteers to revitalize 40 parks, gardens, waterfronts, and playgrounds in high-need areas. In New York City’s largest hands-on spring-cleaning event, volunteers will clean up shorelines, restore garden beds, plant flowers and trees, paint benches, and remove invasive species in all five boroughs in preparation for the spring and summer seasons. In just four hours of work, caring volunteers will transform more than 40 public spaces into the highlights of their neighborhoods.
New York Cares Day Spring is an annual day of service run by New York Cares, the city’s largest volunteer network, and HSBC, the presenting sponsor of the event. Now in its 23rd year, the event is a serve-a-thon (similar to a walk-a-thon) where participants raise money in honor of the time they spend volunteering to support the cost of the event and New York Cares’ year-round volunteer programs. Last year, 64,000 New Yorkers made the city a better place by volunteering in New York Cares programs at over 1,300 nonprofits and schools – improving education, meeting immediate needs, and revitalizing public spaces.
