May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the National Alliance of Mental Illness-NYC Metro will hold its eleventh annual NAMIWalks NYC event on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the South Street Seaport Promenade. Hip hop legend, author and mental health advocate Darryl “DMC” McDaniels will serve as grand marshal and be on hand to kick off the Walk.
As the largest mental health event in the country, NAMIWalks NYC will host 5,000+ walkers as they travel over the Brooklyn Bridge and back to the Seaport Promenade for a post-walk wellness fair that will include activities such as free massage, yoga, basic health screenings, raffle prizes, and more. Proceeds fund NAMI NYC-Metro’s free support and education programs for families and individuals living with mental illness.
The potential repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) could leave many New Yorkers without healthcare coverage. Now, more than ever, we are living with uncertainty as to whether physical and mental health coverage will continue for people with preexisting conditions and individuals who are covered through Medicaid. NAMIWalks NYC is the perfect time to let your voice be heard and walk for a great cause.
