‘Monteverdi at 450: Experiments in Sound, Image, and Movement’

“Revisiting Poppea: Luciano Berio’s Monteverdi,” for the inauguration of the Berio exhibition from the Sacher Foundation, speakers include: Mauro Calcagno (UPenn), Giuseppe Gerbino (Columbia U.), Christoph Neidhofer (McGill U.), Thomas Peattie (U. of Mississippi; Academy Fellow).

Opening Reception for the Exhibition: Wednesday December 6, 2017, 5:30 – 7pm

“A Philology of the Future: Berio and L’incoronazione di Poppea,” the first showing of previously unexplored archival documents related to Berio’s 2003 unfinished “re-visitation” of Monteverdi’s 1643 opera L’incoronazione di Poppea for the Los Angeles opera, now preserved at the Sacher Foundation. The exhibition will run: Dec 7 – Feb 1 (Weekdays, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm)

Roundtable: Thursday, December 7, 2017, 3 – 6pm

“Rethinking Monteverdi: Castellucci, Bergman, Feuer,” to consider revisitations of Monteverdi by Romeo Castellucci, Ingmar Bergman, and Donya Feuer, speakers include: Mark Franko (Temple U.), Piersandra Di Matteo (Fine Arts Academy, Bologna)

Concert: Thursday, December 7, 2017, 8 – 9:30pm

“From Monteverdi to Bergman,” TENET ensemble will perform works by Monteverdi, followed by a short dance film collaboration by Ingmar Bergman and Donya Feuer, “De Fordomda Kvinnornas Dans”
