New York University and its campus in Abu Dhabi simultaneously will host a special exhibit of photographs taken at Markazi, a Yemeni refugee camp in Djibouti beginning Sunday February 4 through May 30 and is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In New York, the exhibition will be displayed at NYUAD’s New York office, 19 Washington Square North in Manhattan. The exhibition focuses on the conditions of mobility and immobility in Yemen and the Horn of Africa through its focus on households and everyday life in Markazi. Last month, 15 NYUAD students who are from 14 different countries traveled to Markazi for a January-term class where they met and volunteered with refugees and took classes. The exhibit features texts by the NYUAD students along with photographs taken by residents of Markazi and professional photographer Nadia Benchallal. The exhibition is open to the public.
