LIC FLEA & FOOD, one of the biggest and well-known markets in New York City, will be launching its third season with a group of new vendors and popular returning vendors on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12, 2015.
The official kick off will be celebrated with a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, April 11 at 11:00 am at the entrance of LIC FLEA & FOOD, located at the corner of Fifth Street and 46th Avenue in Long Island City, just one block behind the iconic Pepsi-Cola sign.
The market, which offers breathtaking views of the Midtown Manhattan skyline, can be accessed directly from Gantry State Park along Anable Basin and is within walking distance of the No. 7, E and G trains, as well as the LIC East River Ferry stop and a parking garage conveniently located on Fifth Street.
LIC FLEA & FOOD will host over 80 vendors each day including favorites from last season and many new vendors who offer unique goods and offer the best in food, jewelry, fashion, furniture, art and crafts, antiques, collectibles and more.
A new addition to opening weekend is the Flea’s beer garden, which will exclusively serve beer brewed in Queens from local breweries including Rockaway Brewery, Queens Brewery, Finback and SingleCut. The bar will also offer a great selection of wines.
In addition to a wide array of unique vendors, the market will feature activities including ping pong, bouncy houses for kids and special food events throughout the season. LIC FLEA & FOOD is a fun and vibrant weekend destination for the entire family.
“We are thrilled to kick off our third season of LIC FLEA & FOOD bringing together amazing vendors and the community for both our outdoor season and indoor holiday market,” said LIC FLEA & FOOD President Joshua Schneps. “We look forward to a great season ahead and offering a place for visitors to come for the day to enjoy the flea, the waterfront park, surrounding businesses and all that Long Island City has to offer.”
Plaxall, a family-owned and operated business based in Long Island City for over 70 years, hosts the Flea on a waterfront lot it owns. The company serves as the landlord for properties occupied by a wide range of tenants – from tech companies to media firms and artisans, including beer garden participant Rockaway Brewery.
“What better way to celebrate Queens and the coming of springtime than to enjoy LIC FLEA & FOOD’s third season on the beautiful LIC waterfront?,” said Paula Kirby, Plaxall Managing Director.
“We’ve been proud to host and support the Flea not just because it’s a fantastic event, but because it’s a celebration of the incredible, and growing, LIC community that we’re so proud to support and call home. Our grandfather arrived here 70 years ago knowing LIC had such promise as a vibrant neighborhood and today, through events like the Flea, we’re seeing that vision really take shape.”
LIC FLEA & FOOD’s community partners include The East River Ferry, Queens Economic Development Corporation, TF Cornerstone, Food Cellar and LIC Partnership.
LIC FLEA & FOOD is a perfect venue for entrepreneurs who might not yet be ready to afford a storefront, but are seeking to grow their businesses and gain incredible visibility.
As a weekend destination, the market is also expected to be a continued source of economic growth for surrounding businesses.
