InterSchool Orchestras (ISO) Winter Concert at Peter Norton Symphony Space will be on Sunday December 17th at 4pm and 7:30pm. These programs will feature a combination of classical orchestral music and wind band music, along with holiday favorites.
The 4pm Concert will feature four ISO ensembles, Trinity-Florentine Orchestra, Morningside Orchestra, Turtle Bay Orchestra and Carnegie Hill Orchestra. All four ensembles will be led by Maestros George Nicholson, Matt Rotjan, Barry Stern and Steven Rochen. Classical music selections will include works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Leontovych, Ponchielli and Handel. Holiday classics such as Parade of the Wooden Soldiers and Five Ukrainians in a Bell Tower among others will be performed.
The 7:30pm Concert will feature three ISO ensembles, Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Winds and Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestros Lawrence C. Markiewicz and Brian Worsdale. The Concert Orchestra will perform Berceuse and Finale from Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Bizet’s Farandole and the Toy Symphony, in its entirety, by Leopold Mozart. The Symphony Orchestra will perform movements from Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, as well as other holiday selections including Chanukah Festival, Carol of the Bells and Sleigh Ride. The Symphonic Winds will perform Holst’s famous Suite in F for Military Band, Samuel Hazo’s 2008 composition In Flight, and Johan de Meij’s iconic Gandalf (The Wizard) from his Symphony no. 1 The Lord of the Rings (1990). Rounding out the band program will be contemporary composer John Mackey’s Sheltering Sky.
