Is the United States an exceptional immigration society? Sociologists Richard Alba and Nancy Foner come prepared to analyze this question and more, guided by New York Times editorial board writer Lawrence Downes. Alba and Foner’s new book, Strangers No More, compares the status of immigrants in the US and Western Europe, from angles of religion, race, identity and intermarriage. Alba and Foner delve into issues of pivotal importance for the present and future of Western societies, where immigrants and their children form ever-larger shares of the population.
