n Thursday, December 21, 2017, Care for the Homeless (CFH) in association with Long Island University (LIU), will co-host the Annual Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day (HPMD).
Held each year on the winter solstice – the longest night of the year – the HPMD program commemorates people who have passed away during the year without stable housing and to advocate for policies to end homelessness.
HPMD, which is free and open to the public, will be held at LIU Brooklyn Lutney Commons, 1 University Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Entry to the event is at Flatbush Ave and Dekalb Ave. Nearby Subway lines: 2, 3, 4, 5 (Nevins St); B, Q, R (Dekalb Ave); and A, C, G (Hoyt Schermerhorn St).
This event offers a meal beginning at 4:30 pm and a program beginning at 5:30 pm. The program will include remarks and a memorial portion where the names of those who have passed are read, a candle is lit and information about the person is projected on a screen. Each year it has proven to be a very moving and memorable event for all who attend.
