Heart of Gold Gala with Neil Young
July 14, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 11:30 pm
The Bridge School, the leading non-profit organization dedicated to educating children with severe speech and physical impairments, will host an intimate, fundraising event called the Heart of Gold Gala at a private estate in Watermill, New York on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Music legend Neil Young will take to the stage for a special live performance to raise awareness and funds for The Bridge School, which he co-founded and has supported for over 30 years.
The Bridge School was started by Pegi Young, Jim Forderer, and speech and language pathologist, Dr. Marilyn Buzolich. Pegi Young and Neil Young were inspired to start the school after they were unable to find a suitable school placement for their non-verbal son, Ben Young, who has cerebral palsy. Since its inception, The Bridge School has been a leader in ensuring that children with severe speech and physical impairments are able to achieve full participation in their communities through augmentative and alternative communication and has developed unique programs and trained highly skilled professionals in the use of state of the art assistive technology.
“In addition to being a music icon,” said Dr. Vicki Casella, executive director of The Bridge School. “Neil Young’s legacy will include The Bridge School. With his strong support, The Bridge School has enabled children around the world to be active participants in their society by providing access to education and communication and empowered a global network of research and development in alternative and augmentative communication that we look forward to celebrating and expanding upon with the Heart of Gold Gala on July 14.”
The Heart of Gold Gala will begin with a red-carpet cocktail reception and will continue with dinner, followed by Neil Young’s performance. The evening will also include a live auction featuring coveted items such as autographed guitars and signed Steinway piano, high-end experiences including an exclusive tour of the Tesla factory, and more.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, The Bridge School is a research and development epicenter for alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and education for children. The sharing of The Bridge School’s cutting-edge approach to education and communication has resulted in breakthroughs around the globe. With hundreds of conferences across six continents, The Bridge School has trained over 2,300 teachers and therapists, and provided over 10,000 hours of specialized instruction, seminars and lectures. From Mexico to South Korea, the graduates of The Bridge School’s International Teacher-in-Residence program have successfully implemented innovative educational frameworks and, in some instances, affected government policy impacting tens of thousands of children and adults.
