The George Gershwin Int’l Music competition, now in its 3rd year, recognizes exceptional young artists in four categories: piano, voice, string instruments, and winds/brass. Entrants this year hail from 20 countries around the world, from Vietnam to Venezuela, and start at age 12. The distinguished panel includes radio’s Robert Sherman; Metropolitan Opera soprano Olga Makarina; and pianist Richard Glazier, who played for Ira Gershwin and hosted a PBS Series on Gershwin. The musicians will compete with works by Gershwin, Chopin, Mozart and others. Founded and directed by pianist/composer Michael Bulychev-Okser. Rounds will take place Oct. 26-30 at The Estonian House, 243 E. 34 St., Oct. 31 at National Opera Center, 330 7th Avenue; and Finals will be held Nov. 2-5 at Baruch P.A.
