Hispanic Federation is organizing FUERZAfest – New York City’s Latino LGBTQ Festival. This unprecedented event will take place from May 10th to May 21st of 2017 at the Julia de Burgos Preformance and Arts Center, located on 1680 Lexington Avenue, New York City.
Almost a year after the Pulse Club tragedy, FUERZAfest will bring together members of New York City’s diverse LGBTQ communities, allies, and artists for a 12-day celebration of Latino LGBTQ culture. Under the theme “Breaking Down Walls,” the second installment of FUERZAfest New York will continue providing a space for dialogue and awareness of social issues, including the prejudices stemming from ignorance and homophobia that threaten the LGBTQ community.
Supported by the Hispanic Federation, FUERZAfest will highlights stage and film work, art exhibitions, workshops and panel discussions that contribute to the gay rights movement.
The central focus will be a competitive showcasing of one-act plays by individual theater groups, which will vie for FUERZA Awards, including Best Production, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director.
