In Jewish culture, the way to someone’s heart is frequently through their bellies (boykh). Join the Workmen’s Circle on Valentine’s Day and be prepared to fall in love at “From Here to Halvah: Jewish Desserts of Libe,” featuring delicious treats like babka, honey cake, rugelach, coconut macaroons, egg creams, and ka’ak at Shelsky’s of Brooklyn.
The evening promises to be a delicious gathering where attendees can nosh and sip while discovering the histories of modern and traditional Jewish desserts. The event will feature a discussion with Leah Koenig (author of Modern Jewish Cooking), Shannon Sarna (editor of The Nosher), Sylvia Fallas (featured chef of Kosher.com), and Pete Shelsky (co-owner of Shelsky’s of Brooklyn), who will encourage attendees to celebrate their love of Jewish desserts with personal stories. Attendees will experience traditional dishes such as macaroons and cassola, as well as some modern twists on old favorites like s’mores rugelach and orange-spiced rye honey cakes.
