In 2011, he advanced to the title of Captain and was transferred to the 9th Precinct, where he served as Executive Officer. In 2013, Timoney became Commanding Officer of the 1st Precinct and subsequently transferred to the 13th Precinct as its Commanding Officer in March 2015. He was a police officer in Midtown Manhattan before being promoted to Sergeant in 2002. As a Sergeant, he supervised the 40th Precinct Detective Squad, the Identity Theft Squad and was the Commanding Officer of the Bronx Transit Squad.
