NYPD Commanding Officers Brendan Timoney and Christopher Flanagan will discuss safety issues, neighborhood conditions, and combatting identity theft as part of the Flatiron/23rd Street Business Improvement District’s ongoing program, Intersections: A BID Series Focused on Information, Ideas, and Our Community, on Tuesday, October 17.
The free event is expected to draw residents and business representatives from the Flatiron District. It will begin with a presentation by Deputy Inspector Brendan Timoney, Commanding Officer of the 13th Precinct, on security and neighborhood trends, followed by a presentation by Deputy Inspector Christopher Flanagan, Commanding Officer of the NYPD’s Financial Crimes Task Force, on how New Yorkers can combat identify theft.

The event’s main speaker, Deputy Inspector Timoney, joined the NYPD in 1998, starting in patrol at the 52nd Precinct in the Bronx. He has since worked in other Bronx precincts, at the Midtown North Precinct as a Sergeant, and in a unit that addresses quality-of-life issues. In 2011, he advanced to the title of Captain and was transferred to the 9th Precinct, where he served as Executive Officer. In 2013, Timoney became Commanding Officer of the 1st Precinct and subsequently transferred to the 13th Precinct as its Commanding Officer in March 2015. He was promoted to Deputy Inspector on August 31, 2015. Timoney hails from a loyal lineage of NYPD officers; notably, his uncle is former First Deputy Commissioner John Timoney.
Deputy Inspector Christopher Flanagan is a 20-year veteran of the NYPD. He was a police officer in Midtown Manhattan before being promoted to Sergeant in 2002. As a Sergeant, he supervised the 40th Precinct Detective Squad, the Identity Theft Squad and was the Commanding Officer of the Bronx Transit Squad. After being promoted to Lieutenant in 2007, Deputy Inspector Flanagan worked in the 46th Precinct, Internal Affairs Bureau, and later was the Commanding Officer of the Special Frauds Squad and the Major Case Squad. Deputy Inspector Flanagan was promoted to Captain in 2013 and worked in the 90th Precinct and Manhattan Detective Borough before being designated the Commanding Officer of the Financial Crimes Task Force in 2015. He was promoted to Deputy Inspector in June of 2017.
