FarmOn! Foundation Presents: How Does the Garden Grow? In Partnership with Bronx Zoo

June 6, 2015 - June 28, 2015

A series of weekend events, viewed by over 2 million Bronx Zoo visitors, strengthening the connection between food, the environment and ourselves with partners and celebrities. As part of the summer celebration of the Children’s Zoo, this June guest programming activities will expand upon our domestic animal farm area. In association with the education department and FarmOn! Foundation will host a number of interactive experiences (How Does our Garden Grow: Planting a Garden, seed & soil & composting, Father’s Day Weekend – Pick, Plant and Cook with Dad – Healthy Eating, Be a Bee – Importance of Our Pollinators) that align with mission and support the following goals: Connect our visitors to nature and natural processes, Generate awareness of and interest in engaging in sustainable actions that relate to gardening, Gain insight into our actions and how they affect the planet.

Weekend Schedule in June
June 6-7: “Meet Your Farmer: Seed and Soil”- Get dirty and connect to New York farms with hands-on activities, seed packet crafting, and more.

June 13-14: “From Kitchen To Compost”- Meet the soil’s best friend, the earthworm, and learn the basics of composting food waste. Create your own seed packet craft.

June 20-21: “Celebrating All-Star Dads: Healthy Food and Recipes”- Discover healthy, seasonal recipes, learn the art of pickling, and meet Super Sprowtz Roger and Colby Carrot!

June 28-29: “Celebrating Pollinators”- Enjoy stories from author Lela Nargi, special activities, and honey tastings as you discover the importance of bees. Create your own seed packet craft.
