The Harlem School of the Arts Music Department, in celebration of the centennial anniversary of Ella Fitzgerald, the first lady of song presents, “Ella 100 An Evening of Ella Fitzgerald” on April 21st at 7:00pm.
Ella Fitzgerald was discovered during an appearance on Amateur Night at the Apollo so it is only fitting that two of the special guests performers are winners of Showtime at the Apollo with Steve Harvey; Matthew Whitaker (keyboardist) and Alexis Morrast (jazz vocalist). They are only teens, but display a far-beyond-their-years, grasp of music. Their interpretation of the standards and jazz classics have astounded audiences everywhere.
Joining Matthew and Alexis for this special evening of song in remembrance of one of most beloved vocal stylists ever to grace the stage, will be the Dorothy Maynor Singers under the direction of Ms. Yolanda Wyns, Director of HSA’s Music Department.
