Eduardo Sarabia’s new exhibition “Ballads” consists of a wool tapestry and a new series of paper diorama boxes.
These are inspired by the designs in Sarabia’s more commonly known hand painted vessels. The blue and white color scheme of Talavera vases continues in this body of work as do themes of modern hieroglyphs of Mexican and Norteno drug culture. The tapestry is inspired by the “narcomantas”, which are crudely made coded messages hung in public areas in Mexico by gangs and drug cartels as coded messages to each other.
The exhibition will be running until July 5th.
