This concert event, hosted by humorist Bruno Nogueira and featuring vocalist Manuela Azevedo (lead singer of the popular Portuguese band, Clã), will bring entirely new life to pimba, a genre of music traditionally associated with rural regions of Portugal, characterized by uptempo, dance-friendly rhythms.
Deixem o Pimba em Paz (which translates as “Leave the Pimba in Peace”) was premiered in Lisbon and has since toured throughout Portugal to critical acclaim. For this highly-energized performance, the party-like qualities of traditional pimba will be transformed with new arrangements that lend the music touches of contemporary jazz, pop and more, including arrangements by accomplished jazz pianist Filipe Melo and Portuguese pop-rock sensation Nuno Rafael. The repertoire will also include songs made famous by popular pimba composer and performer Quim Barreiros.
