(con)temporary (in)sights presents: Marcelo Toledo

May 9, 2015 @ 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm

The (con)temporary (in)sights initiative brings new audiences, composers, and performers together to celebrate and explore the world of contemporary music. Our 2015 concert series focuses on featuring composers/performers of exceptional musicality and aims to contextualize some of the most intricate and demanding contemporary music being written today.

We are honored to be able to present the first portrait concert in the USA featuring composer, Marcelo Toledo.

New York-based Argentinean composer Marcelo Toledo 2013 NYFA Fellow, 2009 DAAD Artist in Residence in Berlin Fellow, has developed through the years an interest toward the exploration of instrumental timbre, complex sounds, and new instrumental techniques becoming a characteristic facet of his compositions. In his work, he has eliminated almost completely the traditional importance given to pitch in order to focus on a new aural matter which is the product of his personal research on all the instruments of the orchestra. In Toledo’s work, sounds evolve almost biologically in an intricate timbral texture made out of complex fluid sounds.

Toledo was commissioned by several European, North American, and Latin-American ensembles, museums, institutions, new music festivals, and radios, such as the South West German Radio, The Essl Museum in Vienna, Center Pompidou, IRCAM, Musik der Jahrhunderte, Ensemble Intercontemporain, New Music Summer Festival Stuttgart, Berliner Kunstlerprogramm Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, The Neue Vocalsolisten, Ultraschall Festival in Berlin, Wien Modern, Berlin Poesie Festival, Ensemble Counter)induction (NY), Ensemble Recherche, Radio Clasica Spain, Ergo Ensemble (Canada), CBC, Festival de Música Contemporánea del Teatro San Martin, Buenos Aires, Speculum Musicae, Continuum Ensemble, Columbia Sinfonietta and a number of renown soloists performers such as Claire Chase, Rebekah Heller, Eva Böcker, David Nuñez, and Theo Nabicht.
