Concerts on the Slope presents new works from the commissioning project “Pieces of Eight,” created by flutist Martha Cargo and cellist Ben Larsen to introduce eight works by eight different composers for their duo combination into the repertoire. Commissioned as part of “Pieces of Eight,” Robert Sirota’s Broken Places, which will be premiered by Cargo and Larsen, is conceived as a series of short, contrasting pieces on the theme of “brokenness.” Sirota has also written an original poem as a textual companion to the music, which will be included in the program notes for the concert.
The program also features works by Natalie Dietterich and Paolo Marchettini from the “Pieces of Eight” commissioning project, along with a performance of Weber’s Trio in G Minor for flute, cello and piano with pianist Ava Nazar. The concert is free and open to the public with suggested donation of $20.
