Romantic to Modern Masters: A Choral Collage represents a musical journey from the beginning of the Romantic period, the early 19th century, to the present. Maestro Galvan has chosen poignant, expressive works whose texts, colors and sonorities transcend the passage of time. Selected compositions include Beethoven’s “Hallelujah!,” from The Mount of Olives, and “Elegiac Song;” Brahms’ sacred motet “Create in Me a Clean Heart” (Psalm 51), excerpts from Schubert’s Mass No. 6 in E flat major, D950 and Fauré’s sublime Pavane, Op.50.
In addition to works by the classical music greats, this program includes compositions by lesser-known modern and contemporary composers such as “Praise The Lord, O My Soul” (Psalm 103) from Four Canticles Op. 78 No. 4, by Amy Beach (Mrs. H.H.A Beach) the celebrated late 19th – early 20th century American composer and pianist, and “Set Me As A Seal,” a moving, sacred choral setting of Song of Soloman 8:6, by Grammy Award winning 21st century American composer and professor of music at Concordia College, René Clausen.
Soloists for the performance are: Malaika Alvaro and Melissa Raymond, soprano; Alexandra Fetner, mezzo soprano; Dale Smith, tenor and Dalton Taylor, bass.
Tickets are available in advance and at the door from BCS: General admission is $20 / two for $35, seniors and students with valid ID, $15 and children through high school, $5.
