American Jewish Historical Society To Host Book Talk with How Come Boys Get to Keep Their Noses? Women and Jewish American Identity in Contemporary Graphic Memoirs Author Tahneer Oksman on Oct. 26

New Yorker Contributor Liana Finck to be Special Guest

The American Jewish Historical Society (AJHS) will host a book talk during which author Tahneer Oksman and New Yorker contributor Liana Finck will discuss Oksman’s new book, How Come Boys Get to Keep Their Noses? Women and Jewish American Identity in Contemporary Graphic Memoirs, on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 pm in the Kovno Room at the AJHS (15 West 16th Street).

American comics reflect the distinct sensibilities and experiences of the Jewish American men who played an outsized role in creating them, but what about the contributions of Jewish women. Focusing on the visionary work of seven contemporary female Jewish cartoonists, Oksman draws a remarkable connection between innovations in modes of graphic storytelling and the unstable, contradictory and ambiguous figurations of the Jewish self in the postmodern era.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for students, seniors and AJHS members.
