Two Extraordinary Nights of Music and Dance – Jan. 16 & 17
Sponsored by Zlatne Uste Balkan Brass Band
An incredible grass roots event, New York’s only music and dance festival of its kind celebrates 30 years of live Balkan, Roma (“Gypsy”) music and beyond.
The celebration commences Friday night in the grand ballroom with a dance workshop from 7:30-8:45 and live music until 12:30 am. The festival resumes at 6 pm Saturday with four simultaneous music stages and doesn’t wind down until early Sunday morning. From international stars to local favorites, musicians from all over the world come to play and sing Albanian, Bulgarian, Romany (Gypsy), Macedonian, Serbian, Greek, Turkish, Hungarian, Norwegian, Swedish, Klezmer, Ukrainian, and Georgian music, among others. Enjoy hours of beautiful and energetic music, unusual rhythms, and mouth-watering Balkan and Middle Eastern refreshments. Dancing is encouraged. Bop to a brass band, chill to a quiet set of songs, bask in the luxurious setting of a restored local landmark.
