Known as one of the biggest Halloween costume contest for dogs in the world, hundreds of pooches let their alter-egos shine as they strut down the runway in the absolute cutest and most creative costumes of the year. Ranging from topical to classic, the costumes are equally elaborate and entertaining. The competition is “ruff” as dogs and their owners vie to win the illustrious “Best in Show” award for best costume and hundreds of dollars in prizes. This year’s “Howloween” event will be as spectacular as ever, with highlights that include:
• Three rounds of the costume contest
oHosted by Stephen Glickman, stand-up comedian who has appeared on “Comedy Central” and “Nickelodeon”, and Ada Nieves, New York City-based certified pet fashion designer
o Overall “Best in Show” winner selected at the end of the event
Winner will receive an Apple Watch
o Prizes for top two winners selected during each round
Each prize package includes two tickets to an upcoming Broadway show and a $50 Visa gift card
• Sampling from the event’s sponsor, Beggin’ – the official dog treat of Halloween™
o For every tweet using #Howloween in October, Beggin’ will donate up to 50,000 bags of Beggin’ to Petfinder shelters across the country
• Pet adoption opportunities from local Petfinder rescue groups

The costume contest is open to anyone with a costumed dog.
Admission is free; however, a $5 donation is required to enter the dog park.
All funds raised will support the Friends of First Run, who maintain and upkeep the Tompkins Square Park Dog Run year-round.
