2017 Vendy Awards on Governors Island

September 16, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Called the “Oscars of Street Food”, the Vendy Awards is an annual street food competition and fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a non-profit organization that provides legal representation and advocacy for street vendors.

The 13th Annual Vendy Awards will return to Governors Island Saturday, September 16th from 12:30-5pm EDT. Tickets on sale now at http://www.vendyawards.org

The NYC Vendy Awards is a food competition and a beloved weekend event, giving attendees the opportunity to sample bites from the cream of the crop of NYC’s thousands of street food vendors. Many of NYC’s most famous trucks got their first big boost at the Vendys, and this year will be no exception. Over 25 vendors are selected by public nomination, and the winners are chosen by attendees and our celebrity judges. This year’s categories are: Bad Hombres for best taco truck, Rookie for the best new truck or cart, best Dessert, best in Market for the many eclectic food market vendors, and the coveted Vendy Cup Award for the best overall vendor. For the thousands of people who attend the event each year, The Vendys offer the unique experience of tasting New York’s best street food—tastes from around the world—in one spectacular venue without breaking the bank or busting a gut.
General Admission tickets are available for $100 and $150 for VIP. General admission for kids 8-12 is $60 and under 8 are free. Purchase tickets here: http://www.vendyawards.org

The Vendy Awards also raise crucial funds for the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center to help street vendors by providing legal representation and advocacy. With more than 1,800 active vendor members, The Street Vendor Project is working to create a vendors’ movement for permanent change. We publish reports and file lawsuits to raise public awareness about vendors and the enormous contribution they make to our city. We also work to help vendors grow their businesses by linking them with small business training and loans. Now more than ever, these funds are sorely needed to protect the immigrant culture that makes New York a city unlike any other.
