Friends of The New York Women’s Foundation gathered on Central Park West on September 24, 2019 to enjoy a private viewing of “LIFE: Six Women Photographers” at the Joyce B. Cowin Women’s History Gallery at the New-York Historical Society, at party hosted by John F. Hoffman, President, Wealth Management Northeast Region, Northern Trust; Henry Johnson, President, Wealth Management East Region; and Jean Shafiroff, author, philanthropist and Board alumna of The New York Women’s Foundation.

Over 150 guests from the words of business, philanthropy and civic affairs, including Joyce Cowin and Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright, enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as they perused the works of some of LIFE magazine’s trailblazing women photographers who captured American identity through their photojournalism. The exhibition features nearly 70 extraordinary images created by Margaret Bourke-White, Hansel Mieth, Marie Hansen, Martha Holmes, Nina Leen, and Lisa Larsen.

Addressing the crowd, Ms. Shafiroff spoke of New York’s women community leaders who are blazing trails in the fight for social justice, gender equality, economic opportunity and reproductive rights and how The New York Women’s Foundation supports their solutions. She urged the guests to show their support by attending The Foundation’s upcoming 2019 Radical Generosity Dinner. Ms. Shafiroff, Karen Choi and Lola C. West are co-chairs of the event at the Essex House on October 7 honoring two champions of social justice, DeAnna Hoskins, President & CEO of JustLeadershipUSA and Bryan Stevenson, Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative.

Proceeds from the 2019 Radical Generosity Dinner will enable The Foundation to invest an unprecedented $11 million in organizations engaged in advancing the economic advancement, health and safety of women and families in New York City through community-led solutions.
