Obviously, this article is biased against the use of biomass as a fuel for the production of electric power. Biomass is a residual product of timber harvesting and the production of lumber and other forest products. Timber harvesting operations produce logs. In the course of manufacturing logs, branches, tops, and long butts are produced. This material must be disposed of in some manner. Burning it under controlled conditions at a power plant is far better than burning it in open piles on each logging job or letting it rot while it emits large quantities of methane over a long period of time. Likewise, utilizing biomass such as bark and residual chips, generated during the production of lumber, as a fuel at a power plant is a far better solution than other disposal alternatives.
