  1. I think it is unfair that Registered Republicans could not vote in my District today!!! Where is the democracy in this line of thinking?

  2. Just so you know, in the State of New York the primary election rules are that you must be registered in a party to vote for candidates in that party. If there is only one Republican vying for a spot on that party’s ticket, there is no primary runoff.
    I believe the reason that people are only permitted to vote for the party with whom they are registered is so that a saboteurs will not try to undermine the party’s strongest candidate.
    That said, you can vote for whomever you like in the general election. There is also a place for “write in” candidate, so you can vote for yourself or anyone else you like, even if their name is not on the ballot.
    You must be registered with a party to vote in the primaries. That is NY State law. You can change your party affiliation if you like. I am not sure how far in advance of the primaries you need to do that. That is a question for the Board of Elections.
    That is the present law in NY State.
