FYI: Black and Latino students trail their white classmates on every one of more than a dozen predictors of academic achievement, according to an Educational Testing Service study, reported in Education Week. Researchers for the national testing giant picked 14 measures generally agreed upon to correlate with levels of success in schools, then looked for racial disparities. Looking at exposure to lead paint, class size, hunger and nutrition, teacher experience, school safety and even birth weight—researchers found blacks and Latinos to be at a significant disadvantage from their white counterparts in every category.
