FYI: United Way of New York is launching a nonprofit leadership training program in response to its study finding a crises in the industry’s cultivation of future organization chiefs. UWNY released preliminary findings from its two-year, 900-organization survey this summer, and the final report became available last week. It found that 45 percent of the city’s current executive directors plan to retire in the next five years, but nearly 60 percent of the city’s nonprofits have no professional development programs. In conjunction with Baruch College, UWNY will offer a senior and junior fellowship program, beginning early next year. UWNY will cover tuition for each applicant, who must be nominated by a nonprofit group willing to pay for the person’s books and fees. Applications for the senior fellows program–which will begin first, in January 2004–are due November 25. [10/28/03]
