FYI: The city law department has become one of the top draws for graduating law students since 9/11, according to the New York Law Journal, as more young lawyers seek public interest work over the money to be made in the city’s big firms. Applications for assistant corporate counsel positions have almost doubled since 2001, and the law department is now Manhattan’s third largest law office, with 650 attorneys. It’s also one of the most competitive gigs to land: applications for 2003 internships doubled from the previous year to nearly 3,300, for less than 100 positions. [9/16/03]
